Where is Red River Valley CDL Training?

At 101 Stockwood Avenue SE, Glyndon, MN 56547, about ten minutes east of Moorhead, Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota. Get directions.

Do I have to come to Glyndon to train?

No. You can train here in Glyndon in our truck, or Carl can travel to you and train you in your own truck, with travel fees. We travel to places like Colorado and Oregon, and we are not limited to those. Your permit, tests and CDL come from your home state's licensing agency; the state guides link to each state's official rules.

When do classes start?

You are placed in the next opening. A $1,000 deposit holds that spot. Once we have your enrollment form, we email an invoice through QuickBooks, and you are scheduled when the deposit is paid.

What does a CDL cost?

Four things: the state's permit, test and license fees; your DOT medical card; your DOT drug test (a student expense); and your training. The CDL cost calculator adds up the state fees with a link to each fee's source. For tuition, call us or book a free call.

How do I pay for training?

Training is self-pay or paid by your employer. Other payment options are not available at this time.

Do I need a drug test?

Yes, a DOT/FMCSA drug test. Take it within 30 days of your behind-the-wheel training; the results are due by the Friday before training. Your options: your own testing facility with our form ($50.00); your own facility with your form; Jamison Englund, DC, in Fargo, ND (218-790-2978), who does both the DOT medical card and drug and alcohol testing; or, for Colorado students, Mountain View Testing in Alamosa, CO (Megan, owner, 719-496-6901).

Do I need a DOT physical?

Yes. You need a DOT medical card from an examiner listed on FMCSA's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. For the DOT medical card, we suggest Jamison Englund, DC, in Fargo (218-790-2978), who also does drug and alcohol testing, or Dr. Lee in Moorhead (701-630-9536) for the medical card only.

What do I need to send before training?

Your $1,000 deposit, full payment (paid in full within 7 days of training), driver's license, commercial learner's permit (at least 14 days before training), DOT medical card, a 3-year MVR (driving report) covering every state you drove in, your DOT drug test results (by the Friday before training) and your finished ELDT online theory (by the Friday before training). Text, call or email Brooke: 701-446-7858, brooke@redrivervalleycdl.com. It is your responsibility to get everything in before training; if anything is missing, you are rescheduled to the next available training date. No exceptions. Download the checklist.

How do I enroll?

Send the online application, or fill in our enrollment form and email it to brooke@redrivervalleycdl.com. We then email your deposit invoice through QuickBooks. You will not be scheduled until the deposit is paid.

How long does training take?

Our hands-on training can be finished in about one week once your permit and the theory part are done. The federal rules make you hold your commercial learner's permit for 14 days before the skills test, so plan for that.

What is ELDT?

Entry-Level Driver Training. Since February 7, 2022, federal rules (49 CFR Part 380) say you must finish ELDT theory and behind-the-wheel training with a provider listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry before your first Class A or B skills test, and before some endorsement tests. Read the rule on eCFR.

How old do I have to be?

At least 18 for a commercial learner's permit (49 CFR 383.71). Under 21, a CDL is for driving inside your state only; you must be 21 to drive a commercial vehicle across state lines (49 CFR 391.11).

Where do I log in to my online course?

Use the Student Login button at the top of every page. It opens your online courses (your ELDT theory). Your behind-the-wheel scores, hours and sign-offs are under Training Records, the button next to it.

Do you train drivers for businesses?

Yes. If your company needs a driver trained, book a free call and we will talk through what you need. We can train in your own truck.
